Anyone with kids, as well as those without, will likely cringe when they hear this horrible report. A young teen in Florida, 15 year old Michael Brewer, was recently set on fire at the apartment complex where he lived with his family. Five teen classmates committed the monstrous crime in retribution over an unpaid $40 debt, allegedly owed to one of the kids for a video game.
We all seek to protect our families as best we can. In the terrible Deerpark Beach attack, Michael Brewer was restrained, doused in alcohol and intentionally set on fire. Michael jumped quickly into a pool. Thought the water did not put out the flames, a neighbor ran over with a fire extinguisher and aided in putting out the remaining fire.
Personal alarms, surveillance cameras and security alarms can all elicit faster responses from authorities when victims do need assistance, or alert us when criminals break onto property where they don’t belong.
I’m sure most of us cannot imagine such a violent, senseless attack on any one of our family members, and hopefully it’s something we’ll never have to deal with. Unfortunately, it seems vicious people are everyone and their inexplicable actions can’t be predicted. Investing in a security system is something that could lend a protective element for your family and home, and possibly save someone’s life.
